Patrick Shields was found guilty of resisting arrest this morning at his trial at Keene District Court. Judge Burke, announcing his judgement told Shields that, while he did do a good job representing himself in court, he was still found guilty of the charge resisting arrest. Burke also changed the prosecutors recommended sentence of a $250 fine to a $1,000 fine, but suspended it for a year.
The trial started at 10:15 this morning, and ended at 11:00. Shields testified that, after talking to a reporter in the City Hall second floor lobby, he did not leave because police were already blocking the door; his only option was to do nothing, and drop to the floor. The prosecution maintained that by doing nothing, Shields resisted arrest – the only charge he was tried for.
