Browsing bills by date

THOMAS BetaBrowsing through the Library of Congress website is a pain. I just found out that it is possible to “just browse” by using the search term “bill,” since all the bills obviously contain the word “bill.” Unfortunately, it does not allow you to sort by date for ease of browsing and limits you to 1,000 results. Luckily, their new beta site is not as restrictive. If you search for the search term “bill,” it will show you everything. You can then sort by date, and read the bills as you would a blog. Go ahead and make a comment about the beta, and ask them to add browsing. According to their FAQ, they are adding RSS feeds too, in case you want to keep track of new bills.

Well, I suppose the difficulty of browsing would ameliorated if Congress wasn’t intent on intruding on every aspect of our lives.

I like the beta, it is very clear and should offer a great public-access alternative to sites like GovTrack (while making those sites much easier to update and track information as it comes from the source).
